This is the Marriage Certificate of Clarence Grant Taylor
and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Anna Lancaster. They were married at the
Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa on January 14, 1901. Clarence
was the son of George and Elizabeth (Thompson) Taylor and Elizabeth
was the daughter of John Lancaster and Sarah (Allwood) Lancaster
Thomson (Mrs. Hugh Thomson).
The farm house on the Taylor Family Farm east of Pierson,
Iowa. The people in the photo are: George and Elizabeth Taylor and
their son Clarence and his wife, Elizabeth. This would have been
about 1901 after Clarence and Elizabeth were married.
Clarence and Elizabeth (Lancaster) Taylor are shown here
with their sons Orren (on Clarence's lap) and Clifford in 1903.
Elizabeth is wearing her wedding dress. These were the first two
children of their family of 12 children, all of whom were born on
their family farm between Pierson and Kingsley, Iowa.
In 1910 Clarence and Elizabeth Taylor's family
consisted of these seven children, from oldest to youngest: Clifford
(1901), Orren (1902), Maud (1904), Alice (1905), Nellie (1906),
George (1909), and Edward (1910). The original photo was printed as a
post card. These words were on the back of the post card, supposedly
written by the seven children: "Hello Grandpa, here we all are. We
wish you many happy returns of the day August 5th." "Grandpa" would
have been Hugh Thomson, their mother's step-father.

side of his farm home about 1912. His oldest child, Clifford,
standing to the right (of the horse on the right), said that one of
the horses was named "Nell" and one of them had twins. Also in the
photo (on the porch between Clarence and the horse on the right) were
John Jensen (a hired man) and Clarence's daughters Alice and Maud.
Harold Taylor, son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Lancaster)
Taylor was born June 20, 1912 and died July 5, 1913 at the family
farm home in Rutland Township, Woodbury County, Iowa. Harold was the
eigth child of Clarence and Elizabeth and their only child of twelve
who did not live to adulthood. The family story is that Harold was
outdoors on the day he died and was sitting in a tub of water and,
although his older siblings were watching him, he somehow drowned in
the tub of water. His mother was so devestated that he died without
being baptized that she made sure all her children were baptized
after his funeral. He is buried in the family plot in Good Hope
Cemetery, east of Pierson, Iowa.
