William Taylor was born in Lincolnshire, England in 1783, the son of Charles and Ann Brown Taylor.* According to the "Old Taylor Family History",** William "worked for 21 years on a farm with a Mr. Harris of Grimsby".*** William married Elizabeth Wells on Christmas Eve, 1803. Elizabeth was born in 1783, the daughter of Thomas and Hannah (Brader) Wells. William and Elizabeth Taylor raised a family of ten children, all of whom were married. In June of 1843 William and his wife Elizabeth emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio. All of their children, except the oldest son, Charles (and most of Charles' children) came to this country in the mid nineteenth century to begin a new life.

William and Elizabeth died in Cincinnati and are buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery there. Many of their children and grandchildren moved away from the Cincinnati area but kept in touch with their relatives through letters and visits. Today the descendants of William and Elizabeth (Wells) Taylor live throughout the United States.

*Although, at the present, we do not have any information about the Taylors before Charles Taylor, we do have more information about the Brown family and will produce that in the "Taylor Family History"(the working title of the book) that we are writing about the Taylor Family.

** William and Elizabeth's youngest son, Joseph, wrote a family history around 1898. This history was copied and handed down through the generations to many descendants of William and Elizabeth. We, the creators of this website, refer to this history as "The Old Taylor Family History" and have used it in compiling family trees, in locating long lost relatives, and are using it to write a "Taylor Family History" book. ***After researching this statement we found that he actually worked for a Mr. Haigh of Grainsby Manor.
