Municipal Utilities



Electrical Service

Electrical service is provided by Manning Municipal Utilities through association with the Western Iowa Municipal Electrical Cooperative Association (WIMECA) and the Northern Iowa Power Cooperative (NIPCO). Through innovative and progressive strategies, MMU has been able to offer a comparitively low rate structure to the customers it serves while ensuring a stable power supply.

Kent Hilsabeck manages the utility with the direction of the "Light Board", whose members are appointed by the Mayor of the city. One board member (Gilbert "G.T." Phillips) represents WIMECA on the board of NIPCO.


Water Service

Water service is provided by Manning Municipal Water from it's wells. There is enough elevated storage capacity for 310,000 gallons. The current plant has a 400,000 gallon treatment capacity although a new modern facility is in the final stages of construction and will be on line sometime in late 1996 or early 1997. The average daily consumption in the community is 200,000 gallons but has peaked at 325,000 gallons per day during high usage periods.

John Ohde manages the utility with the direction of the city council.


Natural Gas Service

Natural gas is provided to the residents of Manning and recently Templeton, by Manning Municipal Gas. Northern Natural Gas is the pipeline source for the community. Kenneth Spies is the manager of the utility receiving direction from the "Gas Board",appointed by the Mayor of the city.


Sanitation Service

Sewages treatment is provided for 99% of the community with a secondary treatment plant. As much as 350,000 gallons of material has been collected a day, but the average load is 190,000 gallons per day. The treatment design capacity for the plant is 298,000 gallons per day. This utility is operated by the water department.


Telecommunications

Local telephone service is provided by GTE although there is no locally based repair service or Central office, the switch is digital, there is equal access for long distance and disaster recovery services are available.
Pioneer Internet provides local access to the internet in cooperation with Manning Municipal Utilities.
